OK im in need of some help all of a sudden over the last week my corsa 1.6 ecotec engine has been sometimes struggling to start after being started for awhile, its revs on its own when idle up to 3k sometimes and down to 0.5 & randomly stalling when pulling up at traffic lights n stopping i spoke to a guy at work n he reckons its the idle jets n they need to be cleaned! i cant find out how to do this or what they are does this sound right?
im sure im not the only dude this has happend to n i need to get this fixed soon as im going for a 200mile round trip the end of next month and plus it makes me looks like a nob when at traffic lights revving uncontrollably
Thx for any help n suggestions in advance
*UPDATE 2*
Ok so i unplugged the sensor below and its seems to be better but obviously the sensor is there for a reason is it safe to drive with it unplugged and what can be changed to sort it? engine management light comes on when its unplugged but not when its plugged in so i take it the cable is fine?!?
*UPDATE3*
I solved this problem simply by buying another Sensor for the plug that i unplugged in the pic below! nice n simple and well worth a tenna

thanks marklawton for hosting such a pic
Sorry for the massive picture! OLD Pic for reference or later use

my old corsa did this once. Turned out to be the HT leads needed replacing. That was a non ectoec engine though

on mine it was the throtle positioning sensor wire , if you pull it to one side and tie rap it, that worked with mine

Idle jets are only found in cars fitted with carbs, they are not on fuel injected engines.
Also, despite their name, they don't actually control the idle at all, they cater for on/off throttle progression.

My money will be on the idle valve. As above, try cleaning it out first as they build up with crap. I did this, was OK for a week then I had to change it for a new one.

ICV won't put the EM light on. ICV is on the throttle body, down the passenger side of the engine.

Is it worth
A) Asking my g/fs dad to clean the ICV
B) My g/fs dad thinks i should get someone round to plug in a computer and dertimine the problem or
C) Take it to a garage n hope they dont mug me off and fix the problem?
Also is the throttle body the big mian engine part with the ecotec cover on :/
lol thanks for any replies!

A) Yes
B) Paperclip test it?
Throttle Body: It's towards the back of the engine (bulkhead side) The air intake goes directly onto it.
I Don't have a picture to illustrate this, sorry. it's worth getting your girlfriends dad to clean the throttle body mechanism/plate while he's cleaning the IACV.

Steve, the throttle body isn't at the back of the engine.
It's more down the passenger side of the engine.

Sorry I was thinking Z16XE here, I always get mixed up between the Astra G engine and the Corsa B one.
