The main reason that they'd fail any car on the inside is due to sharp things inside the car that you might hit in the event of a crash.
This is my dash. It passed it's last MOT.

It wont fail the MOT for this. If it has seats in must have belts that work ... Cant fail mot for having no dash board either, must have all items secure inside though and nothing that could cause harm while driving eg sharp edges.

You'll fail at SVA if you can't demist the windscreen but evidently the MOT rules are less stringent.

The Single Vehicle Approval (SVA) scheme is a pre-registration inspection for cars and light goods vehicles that have not been type-approved to British or European standards. The main purpose of the scheme is to ensure that these vehicles have been designed and constructed to modern safety and environmental standards before they can be used on public roads.
