is there a way of turning it off so i cant hear these other annoying twats ruining the game

you click on each individual player and 'toggle mute'

okay am i right in saying you only have about ten seconds to do this at the end of each game?

No you can bring up the scores menu at anytime during a game by pressing 'back' on the xbox 360 controller. I'm guessing it would be the select button on the PS3. The move down the to pllayer/s you want to mute and press the x button on the them to toggle mute on/off.

There is options to switch that off all together then. I can't help as I dont have a PS3, only familar with it with the 360

Press SELECT then go down the list pressing X which mutes the players.
