My best mate found an iPhone 3g when he was pissed up on Sat night, he stuck it in his pocket(wrong i know) and remembered the following afternoon.
There was no lock on the phone and after going through it to try and find obvious numbers such as 'home', 'brother', 'dad' to try and find the original owner found that the contact list only contained a few 'company' numbers, no photos etc. Was perhaps somebodys work/business phone hence their carelessness.
He has called 02 to see if they will give him the owner details so he can forward it on, they say its been IMEI blocked(i take it this means rendered useless) and for data protection cannot give out the owners details and were not prepared to send it on for him.
If he hands it into the poilce will they bother to try and locate the original owner, is it any good to them anymore( they may have claimed off their insurance, if they had it for a new one anway) What would you do?
TBF i said finders keepers, can garentee if i lost mine i wouldnt see it again

if the origional owner reported it to the police with the IMEI number, then if your mate takes it in and obv the IMEI's match it will prolly be given back to the owner, tho like you say,its an iphone for maybe buisness so prolly insured,so dependent on the circumstances they have told the insurers they will prolly have a new one

to get them replaced on insurance you have to report it to the police and quote the crime number to the phone network.

if it made it back to the owner, the operator can't/won't unblock the imei so it is just an expensive ipod touch now........

Meh, keep it. I wouldn't expect to see my mobile again if I lost it! Wouldn't even care, insurance ftw.
