i need some help choosing a mobile phone for my father..

what i really need is Large display, and large buttons..

can anyone recomend a cheap handset,

Whilst the Nokia 6300 is good i.e. big screen, the buttons are pretty small.

I highly recommend the Nokia 6280. Although old, it has a large screen and big buttons. The same working internals as a 6300 so very easy to use.

Whether you'll find one new I don't know.

But the 6300 is great for no messing calls (and texts if needed). My dad uses a 6300 and doesn't have a problem with they keys mind.
