Will a exhaust knocking on the fuel tank fail an MOT Im struggling to get the centre pipe twisted round a bit to get it in the central ridge of the fuel tank.

I wedged a exhast hanger in there for now

I know it doesnt sound good but its just a runabout that I need an MOT for

I can't imagine a hot exhaust actually touching your fuel tank is that safe. . .MOT failure or not.

Exhaust musn't be touching the car in any way other than the rubber hangers.
Man handle the exhaust away from the car and cable tie it. As long as it doesn't touch when the tester checks the stability of the exhaust then you're ok.
