blackberrys are at the moment the most reliable handsets, oceansoul, id probably suspect your friend had a bold, because orange admitted to their firmware chuffing the bold.
phones shouldnt be branded IMHO

yea she has a bold. although the last time she took it in, when they returned it, it came with the generic blackberry firmware on it. Which was all good! for about 5 mins. It still drops calls every 5 mins or so. its got to the point where no1 will call her because if the call goes over 5 mins they will get cut off lol. and thats with out the orange firmwares. she talkin it back tomoz lol

i have a 8320 curve and hated it for a long time, recently grown to love it. I have many phones and it would do my head in if it was my only phone. Great email tool. Qwerty keyboard is great. Fiddly at firts but great once used to it.
Facebook app is quite good.

battery gets much better with time, i get a day out of mine now but im signed into msn all day, surfing the net, send 30 odd texts, calls and emails all with bluetooth on because i use the headset i just never turn it off. if i dont use anything at all it will last 2 or days. not bad goin considering if i did all that on a laptop it would last 2 hours

er i am. blackberry return rate is lowest of all handsets.
as jambo says they dont have little niggles, they just go wrong in a big way.
patents for blackberrys are held by the canadian patent office, and they have stricter manufacturing guidelines and quality control, hence why the products are more reliable.
look at the major faults with n96, c905, omnia etc.
even with the storm and peoples lack of understanding how to use them, the returns rate is still lowest of handsets.
