trying to fix a friends laptop as the sound isnt working. its saying the legacy audio drivers is working properly but when you go to the volume you carnt click or turn anything up, tryed a quick look on the net for help but nothing is coming back, any ideas?

Look on the manufactures homepage for support etc.. and download the sound drivers for that model. Uninstall the current drivers in the meantime from the control panel or device manager. If not then try getting some generic audio drivers like http://www.softwarepatch.com/utilities/ac97.html.
That will often work with most onboard/soundcards.

also make sure there isnt any kind of "hard" volume slider or anything on the front/side of laptop case, if there is turn it up maybe help
