What are you trying to do?

Sampling use Fruityloops, Multi-tracking then you have Adobe Audition (pretty basic, doesn't deal with midi) then you have Logic (mac only), Cubase/Nuendo (4 is the latest version in both but you won't find a cracked version on the "special" shops), ProTools (you need specific hardware), Digital Performer (mac only).

A lot of people use it, i think it's toss in more ways than one download the demo (although it's pretty easy to find on the "special" shops) and give it a whirl.
You'll need to read the Help files a few times and it's worth googling tutorials to get started with it. It's not easy, but it can be near enough drag and drop.

Like said theres Garage Band, although it's very limiting in the sense that you'll need everything at the right tempo (time stretching is a no no).

Oh and yeah, Ableton, brilliant bit of git just for the fact that the beat detector is one of the best, so 8-9 times out of 10 everything will be sync'd.
Multi-tracking is a bit of an arse but for live work or pissing about it's brilliant!

Good luck getting it working, there's no crack for it and there won't ever be a crack for it
The original team, H2O (don't exist), that did Cubase/Nuendo 3, spent 1500+hrs man-hours to crack the Syncrosoft dongle and even then they had to spend months afterwards ironing out bugs.

There's Cubase Portable version but it crashes every 5 minutes or so. And just been told there's a copy of Cubase 4 LE floating around, but LE is pretty limiting with number of tracks you can have.

If you want Cubase 4 then it's going to cost you £400. Nuendo 4 is £1200. If you're a student then you can get an Educational copy that's roughly half the price.
