i've been asked to find out why people would want to change broadband provider and why they wouldn't want to change provider. if you could give me reasons for both that would be great. cheers

Why I would...
Downtime, slow speeds, bad customer service
Why I wouldn't...
Consistent speeds (Not necessarily high), friendly customer service.

Slow speeds for high cost. Indian call centres
Why I wouldn't:
Reliable.

I didn't want to change because I had excellent speeds, well defined peak and off peak times and not throttling.
I changed because they changed the t&c's to include extremely vague rules about limits and throttling and massive speed decreases.

I nearly didn't change from BT because of reliability. Over 5-6 years I can count on one hand the number of hours downtime I experienced. Their speeds were pretty consistant at first and being tied into 4 email accounts over dozens of websites. Makes it a ball ache to change providers.
Reason I did change was the constant throttling, poor CS when you needed it (Indian Call Centre's). Price and speed.
Got a cheaper and quicker connection from another provider that does not throttle.

I dont change because i can't. The ISP i have are the only one available to my area

I would change on price. In fact I stayed because it got cheaper.
I would also change if it was slow, I nearly left Plus.net because of their throttling when in fact a tariff change sorted it.
There's no reason not to leave if you're unhappy.

ISP's picking out (normally) certain traffic, for instance bit torrent, and making that slower than your connection would normally allow.

Bt is just dogshit slow, end of, doesnt matter what traffic it is, im about 2 miles from the exchange on a 'up to (bollocks) 8mb' connection, max I get during the day (downloading http demos or something) is 120kb/s, its fucking terrible
