hes taking the piss matey.
what is it you want exactly? are you doing the work yourself?
if having a garage do the head, i could prob sort a price out for you if wanted it stripping, checking, de-coke, valves re-lapped, new stem seals and skim.
but im guessing you will want a cambelt kit, headset and if dont do work yourself price for doing the head? if not u2u me, could work a price out.
btw you sure its the head and not the bottom end?

I'll vouch for Phil, He's a top lad and does a great fast service.
When is it smoking, On startup or when driving?

just rebuilt mine mate (x14xe)
new cambelt, waterpump, full top end gasket set, new head bolts, and bought a used cylinder head as mine had bent valves due to cambelt snapped....
i used all genuine parts exept the waterpump and it cost me around £325-£350 in parts
i also fitted a powerbox so had to move the loom and everything, which was easier to do whilst it was all in bits, might be worth thinking about if your wanting to tune/keep the car
if you took it to a garage they would probably want £650+ to rebuild id imagine

that skim was abit dear, i pay £20 if i skim it on mates(more convinient for me) or if having 3angle seats or something or no rush i get mate to do it, but thats £25, but only use him to skim now if its an anlged head.
cheers for that terry
think for last x16xe i ported the headbolts are about £12 and headsets £35 or 40, not entirely sure.
gez - what make were the gaskets?

Mine does same. Valve Stem Seals most liekly. But when I come to rebuild i'm gonna bang Piston Rings in aswell. Alot come in at work needing them.
