Hey all,
I have a quick query re: the speedometer on my corsa, basically it stops working on long journeys.
It only does it on long jouneys, after about 45 minutes, the speed will start dropping off, bouncing between 70 (which was my actual speed) and 0 and various speeds inbetween. Then it'll settle at zero for the rest of the journey. The EML lights up as well.
What would cause this? I'm not even sure if the clocks are electronic or cable driven. Can you get a worn cable or dodgy electronic connection?
Its a 1998 1.4 Bv, hopefully it'll have the plug to attempt a paperclip test, but any clues in advance?

Paperclip test showed 0500 - Idle speed stepper motor
Engine wasn't running when I did it, in case that matters.
Does that support what you said?
