Try and get hold of a pair of 40's of a Nova Sport with the Irmscher manifold, they make the car go like stink, I used to have a nova Sport and it was quick it'd beat a lot of things of the mark (Colin McCrae used to rally one) if you can get hold of the whole car in good nick it'd be worth while 0-60 in 8.3 secs and group 3 insurance! but they only made 502! Group A rally versions put out 128bhp
Try www.motorsportdirect.co.uk or www.rallyusedparts.co.uk Pay about £2-300 bit more with air box and try and get the alternator bracket with it

twin 40's on a 1.4SR would give about 120bhp with filters and a 4 branch manifold, then remove all unesescary weight, (nova only weighs 750kg standard), strip it down to about 650kg if you can and you'll have a rocket!
On a 1.2 twin carbs will give you about 75-85bhp with the same mods, and a 1.3SR will give you about 90-105bhp.

The power figures for 1400 are a bit o.t.t. mate! My mates 1300 rally car is putting out about 125bhp and thats got big valve grp A head, AST cam, lightened and balanced heavily modded bottom end and the rest

Well the twin carbs will add around 14bhp if set up correctly, and the 4 branch and system about another 5bhp, and they run roughly 90 as standard. Book figure is 82, but ive seen 1400 sr's on the rollers put out 90 ish standard. It was just a guess i admit, but it wouldn't be too far off that.
A 1300 engine runs 68bhp standard, where as the 1400 is already a good 12bhp more in standard form.

The only way to get 135bhp+ is to run
throttle bodys & mapped ignition

my mates 1.4SR is swift as anything. Totally std, just K+N bolt on and skimmed head. Rebuild done 20k ago, and my god is it fast. It wastes any 1.4 16V Sports with ease, and pulls to 120 (on the clock).
Mint motors if u find a decent one.

A 1.4 Nova SR is 72bhp, the SRi 82bhp.

a 1.4 SR is 72bhp is it? You sure about that?! They are the same power as the SRi, just one is injection one is carb. book listing is 82bhp for both models.

The 1.4 SRi engine is the same block, just different inlet system fitted to them. If anything the carb one is better, a lot more tweakable manually then injection, and more reliable. (less to go wrong, and easier to fix if need be).

my g/f had a nova with a 1.4 astra cesaro engine transplanted in it .it had the full works done 2 it.
shrick cam(the one out of pmc demo corsa),b-pack head, superchip, tubular m/fold,full janspeed system, pipercross filter and racing plugs+leads and that put out 135bhp on well lanes rollers .
it could also keep up with scoobies /20 16v .
that was a 1.4 litre.
it was a animal

either way, the nova is faster then the sri, it weighs so much less. 745kg against 1300kg....big difference! So power to weight the nova kicks arse. But id still have a corsa personally, bit more modern.
