its called the SAI. pumps warm air from the exhaust back to the inlet, on cold starts, to help it reach operating temperature quicker. so yours is working correctly. Just unplug it if you want, shouldn't put the engine light on or affect running in summer.

It pumps cold air into the exhaust manifold to make the cat work faster from start up- its the EGR that puts exhaust gas into the inlet.
You can remove the whole SAI system as long as the hole in the exhaust manifold is filled

if i remove the system how do i block the hole in the manifold, and am i right in thinkin as its a pump it just draws in air from atmosphere and as such there wont be any extra piping to such as inlet? thanks for your help so far everyone.

It does the opposite, it pumps air into the exhaust to help warm up the cat...

The EGR valve lets exhaust gasses into the inlet.

If you cut the pipe off the cam shaped bit that is bolted to the exhaust manifold then fill that with weld is probably the best way- here is a pic I did on my V6 manifolds

You can just leave the non-return valve connected.
