Just put two on a website I've made.
http://www.windmill-farm.co.uk/46-webcams.html
They're network webcams which plug into your LAN. They have a built in web server which lets you view the webcams anywhere over the network. The router we use allows a dynamic DNS. I set up services in the router which allows the firewall to let the traffic through on a specified port. Finally I set the webcam to respond to the port specified on the router.
The webcams we used have a feature that also lets you use the companies dynamic DNS service too. The webcams are made by Axis.

You can use a normal webcam with the right software installed on a computer, you'd just have to have that computer turned on all the time. It's a bit more efficient to use a network webcam IMO.

If you were to leave a PC on you could just stream it through http://ustream.tv

You could try the free version of WebcamXP, I think it'll do what you want:
