Had my 1.6 conversion done around 3 months ago and was fully serviced ect but today my engine started tapping really loud but when i got home i checked my oil level and there was not a single drop on the dip stick which really shocked me as my oil light had not came on to warn me so guessing bulb is buggered anyway the engine seems to had used roughly 3.5 litres in around 3 months but surely thats not right is it?
The car does not have any leaks, but it does kick a little bit blue smoke out on start up but does not smoke when driving and i was told that the valve stem oil seals need doing but surely it cant be burning that much oil.
Any ideas what i could be?

your bulb isn't gone the light only comes on once there isn't a drop in there, and it holds abit before the dipstick registers.
if the stem seals have gone bad it could of used that much just get them fixed asap and it should stop using so much

But the bulb does not light up when you turn the ignition on the 1s click before starting up.

Yes, its called normal useage.
Mine uses that much oil.
In the Vauxhall handbook/owners guide which comes with the car from new it states-
That the oil consumption can be anything upto 1 litre of oil per 1000 miles.
From my experienece, some use alot and some dont.

Its all down to condition of the engine but they all use oil fella, if its puffing a little out on start up then its valve guide oil seals.

Yeah I have an 8v here that seems to drink oil - The warning light comes on round corners so i know to top it up - Uses lots more than i expected but seems common!

Yes they are thirsty engines on oil mine is like a lot of others seals are letting by some smoke at start up but ok when running, I always check oil once aweek and keep a litre in the boot, thicker grade oil can help a bit to slow the consumption down.

Magnatec is piss thin apparently so im going to use halfords oil as thats better, or get vauxhalls oil. Mine used a litre in 600 miles, maybe down to repeated motorway stints held on high revs (5000 ish) so depends on how hard you push your engine.
I think valve stem seals and labour is about £500 if you go to vauxhall

Got my sport September last year. Noticed that it puffed out blue smoke after I started it just after the warranty expired. Was kicking myself and found out it was the stem seals.
I have done 17k miles since then. Still does it and the engine runs fine. Gets through a bit of oil, but nothing exsesive.
Fix it when it breaks IMO. Mines ok!
