Bought a panasonic HDTV and dvd cinema system today. Have connected all the speakers and subs etc to the dvd player as stated and then connected the dvd to tv via a scart cable. However, when watching tv i cant get any sound from the system, only when watching a dvd. Is there any way to get the speakers going on normal tv or is it just purely for the dvd player?

you'll have to have an audio out on the tv and connect that top the amp in the dvd system, should have at least a stereo in, the red and white cables. Or if it's more expensive should have an optical in.
So either red and white wires from the tv to amp or an optical cable from tv to amp.
Will need to change it to play aux instead of dvd as well

SCART will be sending signal TO the TV only....not from the TV to the surround sound
you need to take the optical audio out from the TV and send this to the optical in on the surround sound
then chose D-in on the surround sound to listen to it

Ok, so i just need to buy the optical lead to connect the dvd system to the tv then. Seems simple enough.

Do you have sky or virgin? if so run an optical from your set top box, will give you true 5.1 that way

Yes mate, Sky+ has optical out, if you watch all your TV through Sky then this would be the best option.
Is there a spare input on the DVD system for the Sky optical cable to plug into?

You may also need to set the TV to use a external reviver like mine.

I had a similar problem.
Scart really isn't the best option for picture quality from the TV to DVD system. Does it have HDMI sockets or Component?
You can get scart leads which change it to output from the TV and connect to the DVD surround sound with phono cables.
EDIT: Try this site: http://www.audiovisualonline.co.uk
