i know this might seem a long shot but, i put a password on my laptop, now i havent used it for a while went to use it today and cant for the life of me remember what it is. Its running windows vista, if anybody knows how to get around this please get in touch.

Boot ntpasswd off SystemRescueCD, reset password.
IIRC it's fairly obvious how once you boot it.

would i save that onto a cd, or usb stick and then just plug it in my laptop on start up?? would this affect any of the data i have on my laptop?

Yeah, there's instructions for using it from either a CD or USB drive on the site.
Once you boot it, it'll ask you which image you want to boot, choose ntpasswd and it's plain sailing from there.
It'll only mess up the data if you use encryption.

not sure about vista, but on xp u can boot in safe mood then go to accounts and change the password there without knowing the old 1

im sorry to be a pain, but when i boot in safe mode by pressing F8, the screen comes up with safemode, safemode with networking, safemode with command prompt... which 1 do i use?

but even still when i open in safemode i just still get the same screen just everything is bigger lol, where do i find accounts?

doesnt it have an admintistrator or guest when u go to the login screen in safemode? usually u click on admin and it lets u straight in, then go into accounts and change password
