Ok so as far as I know we don't have any to pay for the next couple of months.
Does it all start again April and do your local council usually send out a letter?

We get out bill once a year explaining how much goes towards what etc. i am sure u will get a letter closer to when new term or somethign starts.

Don't you get a little book through too so you can make the payments at the post office too if you want? That's what they sent me once at least...

Not sure, they just sent me a bill for £600+ and gave me a few weeks to pay it. Guessing it was my fault with not approching them first

If you are doing it on a direct debit it will go out every month as the direct debit is basically like a loan..
If you look at your council tax statement you will see its over 10 months.

No.. If you buy something with a direct debit the price is broken down over 12 months (like a loan).. BUT if you pay your council directly they expect it in 10 monthly payments..
Have a look at your statement.

Me to Might have to discuss with them how much exactly is going to be spent fixing the drain at the end of my driveway or the road outside my house so I can actually get into the driveway without either dropping into a pothole or scraping the splitter against an apaulingly high drop curb

I worked out the only thing I see from my council tax is my bins being taken away.

and that didn't happen for 5 weeks whilst it was "snowing" I managed to get to work and back every day (100 mile round trip) but they couldn't collect our bins...nice

I think we should all pay our council tax weekly by depositing an envelope in the bottom of our bins... I'd bet they'd soon see to it that every single bin gets collected on time, every time

Might be different in Scotland but our council tax is done by direct debit and we dont pay this month or next. Everyone I know thats a homeowner is the same.

Council tax is a daily charge, you are actually liable to pay it in full on the 1st of April but the council allow you to pay it over 10 months, by whatever method. If you take the option of DD they allow you to spread it over 12 months if you wish.

Called them today, been trying for weeks but the lines are always sooo busy. Wanted to ask the same question, they said that our next debit will be in april. Halifax sent them 6 months worth of payments as part of our mortgage deal and they didnt let us know they had it. The bills that come through are really unclear and complicated, they should be governed by the FSA so that people can understand what/when they are paying.
