what make is it? sometimes press a f key to access the options. do this on HP laptops and can restore to factory

depending on how long you've had it, you might have a restore point which was created when you had nothing installed.
Could try and get windows to restore to that?

That won't format the PC though, as system restore doesn't remove files.
As said, what make is it as it might have a button somewhere to restore it.

never knew that, always thought it did! Thought it literally restored the system to the state it was in when that was made.
Just uninstalls programs etc.. ?

You will probably need the origional xp disk you used to load the operating system on, if not buy a new one and on the installation menu pick to re-format the c-drive or whatever one you want
this is what i had to do anyway and then find all my drivers once it had all loaded back on

iirc they usually have a recovery cd
