When im driving along my cars temp is fine, it will sit just above 90 degrees.
But as soon as i stop e.g in traffic, picking/dropping off a mate within 1-2mins it will rise up to near 100, it never used to rise that quick.
I obviously have enough coolant, that was the first thing i checked, so will it be the thermostat? Or something else is says in the haynes manual like radiator core blocked?
Or is it a case of taking the thermostat out and testing it and trial and error?

I have the same prob on an C20xe where the water boils over before fan kicks in, now I may have a problem with having the wrong rad 1.4 sport rad!!!! but have you tried shorting the fan switch terminals with ignition on fan should turn( b carefull whilst doing that). if fan kicks in then rad switch is buggered
I wish that was my only prob
