wtf causes it? it did it once ages and ages ago but its just done it again and nothing changes on the screen or anything it just starts beeping and wont stop until you switch it off and on again although when you turn on it sounds like a plane taking off and slowly gets quieter

most likely a temperature warning (internal or CPU), could be a case alarm (open side panel), or could be a stuck key on the keyboard.

ill go for temp warning as the side panel hasnt been fitted properly for a while now lol and keyboard had new batteries the other week.

didnt realise they had such warnings

is it evenly spaced beeps or is it in sets of 3 or something? perhaps short and long beeps?

How many beeps?

3 long beeps - keyboard error
Repeated long beeps - RAM error
1 long / 1 short - motherboard
continuous beeps - motherboard / power supply / keyboard

2 shorter beeps, gap,
