i want a shed but not sure what size to get.
is 6'x4' a good size or too small?

will only be putting lawn mower, some paint tins and odds and sods in it.

We've got 2 sheds. One's 4m x 2.5m and the other is 2.5m x 1.5m.
Id get a shed that's slightly bigger than want you expect to put in it. Id say by the time youve got the lawn mower in theres not going to be a lot of space left to actually get in and get stuff.
Our sheds have a couple of windows, a worktop in the bigger one and then shelves and racking. Bearing in mind that once we get a bit of nice weather you might have deck chairs, then shovels, bits of DIY stuff left over from projects etc.
IMO If your gardens big enough go for a shed thats atleast 2.5m by 1.5m. (I dont know what that is in feet and inches  )

2.5m x 1.5m is approx 8'x5'
i was thinking of getting either a 7x5 or an 8x6. the 7x5 seems pretty good value at £233 with 4 windows in.
i ideally want something to cover most of next doors garage wall up as it's a bit boring looking out and seeing a brick wall
plenty of space for both sizes, just don't want it to look too overpowering.

Can you not get one made to a spec? Thats what we did. One end of the shed is thinner than the other end to fit in a specific gap. You could get one the same width and height as the garage and not as deep so it doesn't encroach into the garden too much.
Or
Get a massive shed, split it in half inside and call it a summer house

i don't really want to spend over £250 on one as the mrs would go mental 
i'm probably going to extend the flowerbed bit anyway so as to cover the fence/some of the wall also.
summer house would be awesome  but it'd get used about twice a year if that

I guess you missed what i meant when i said summer house
Summer house means - Flat screen TV, beer fridge, bean bags, and a heater.
You could then live in there all year round and have some space away from the mrs
Just put up a partition (sp) up inside along the back wall or something to hide the mower behind and your onto a winner

I just lock myself in my garage and i dont get bothered
On a serious note you ideally want a bit of a work surface, a few shelves and then quite a bit of floor space. The mower will take up a good square foot of floor space and then you're going to need another foot to get it out when you want to use it.
In our big shed we've got 2 old kitchen cupboards with a work surface on top to store stuff in and then some cheap racking from Argos and the rest of the stuff is just round the edge like the mower etc.
When you become an old man you will start to hoard things like copper pipe joints and nails/screws etc so you will need more space

cheers. i have a garage for some bits but i don't want too much stuff in there as it's taking up valuable floor space hence why i want a shed.
thanks for the help, will probably go for a 7x5 or 8x6. think i'll pop down the garden centre and have a mooch around tomorrow.

Take a tape measure and some measurements such as the size of the lawnmower etc. What looks big at the centre will be tiny once you get anything in it

Ive got a 6x8ft apex roof one, think thats about a standard size & I wouldnt want to go much smaller!!

Area I prepared for it, those are 3x2ft slabs to give an idea of the size. Another 2 were added onto that.
With the shed in place.
Its full already, doesnt take much to fill it. Im already thinking about a small metal B&Q storage jobbie to sit along side it so to allow me to keep the garage for cars!!

By the time you've got the BBQ, summer furnature, patio heater & assortment of power tools put away you soon start wishing youd bought bigger.
I'd go 6x8ft minimum!!

just measured it out and 8x6 seems perfect. i'd think 6x4 would look a bit gay anyway.
