Right, I'm after a sub and amp to finish off my (small) system. I have a Corsa C SXi with sony 6x9s (200w) on t'parcel shelf and an infinity reference component kit in the front, all sounds ok but i listen 2 quite bassy stuff (r'n'b/dance etc) and am now lookin for a sub and amp to give me the power I need to hit those notes, I don't want 2 spend too much (hopefully max £400) but I will need something that makes up for the weedy head unit (CDR-2005 CD player - std on SXi) as I really really dont want 2 have 2 change it (coz of colour and controls and display etc)
Any ideas..........???
All help much appreciated (sorry 4 the essay!!)

U will need a 4 channel amp, chan1 & 2 to 6x9's and 3 & 4 bridged for the sub. A lead can be attached to the headunit to create an output for your amp. Did this in mine m8 with a 600w pioneer sub, 150WRMS 6x9's n 6½" alpine fronts

Don't amp the 6x9's though, amp ur fronts cos the 6x9's will over power the fronts and the sub.

Leave all youre existing kit in before you loose the 6 x 9's. Does youre h.unit have built in crossovers? Is so you want all the midrange at approx 80Hz high pass then it shouldnt effect the sub too much. Dont go for balls-out-bass as the rest of youre system will not keep up and it will sound shite! I would go for a 4channel amp also in youre situation and a 10" or 12" sub. If you put the sub in a large ported box it should give quite a good 'flat' response with good efficiency but a smallish sealed box will give you the 'kick' you need for dance/fast beat mucic but you will need a lot of power to get a lot of volume. I'd bridge two channels of the amp for the sub and the other two use for the COMPONENTS, not the 6 x 9's.
Just a suggestion as you said you want to spend £400...
Alpine F540 - 4 x 80 wrms £300 http://www.cel-direct.com/shop1.asp?s_page=ampselect.asp
Alpine s type sub 10" £80 with sealed box http://www.cel-direct.com/shop1.asp?s_page=subsize.asp
or 12" £90 with sealed box http://www.cel-direct.com/shop1.asp?s_page=subsize.asp
This set-up should do you good. but dont forget to add approx £40ish for the cabeling - RCA, Power, Ground, Remote lead.
