If I get an HTC desire locked to orange is there a way I can use it with my Three sim?
Or is it a case of paying orange to unlock it?

Only costs about a tenner. I used a website called GSMLiberty.

You pay and they send you a code by email. Type it in and job done. Took about 15 minutes.
