Just dropped my iphone, I have orange cover insurance. I have managed to crack the back of it due to being glass, Anyone done this before and managed to get another one off insurance? Or is there a way of changing the back of it?
Cheers.

If you pay for orange insurance why not make use of it and get a new phone sent out?

Have you tried this?
Apple don't fix phones in store. All they will do is swap it for a refurb under the Apple Care plan. if you don't have Apple Care then its a flat fee around £130 odd.
You can now get replacement back panels for around £20/£25 although there are many poor versions which have plastic lense covers with really screw with the camera. Lots of people who have had problems after replacing the back panel.

My mate was sprinting today and literally through his iPhone 4 at full pelt, it bounced several times down the road and slammed into a wall and the only thing that broke was the back. Apparently the screen is ridiculously tough and very difficult to break.

The front and back are exactly the same material...

ish.. the glass is the same BUT remember that the front panel also has the LCD panel glued to it. This will massively affect how it behaves in comparison to the back panel.
Lots of people have suffered smashed back panels when dropping it.

Lots of smashed back panels does not equal a stronger front panel. Unless you can show me official number showing the back is cracked severely more often than the front, then I will continue to doubt that this is the case.
Your explanation about the LCD panel does not give any reason as to the front being stronger.

Funny enough I don't have stats on it as that will be classed as highly confidental Apple data but having spoken to many companies that repair iPhone4s (as I smashed my rear panel) the number that have smashed rear panels are multiples of the front.

For the fear of being called retarded I'd check your insurance first.
For anyone else there is a seller on ebay doing the back screens for £10 with no inner frame (have to remove the one currently on the back cover) or for £20 delivered with the inner frame already assembled to the glass and a screwdriver.
Very good copies but not genuine. Can't tell once they're fitted and can be exchanged in about 60 seconds.

I dropped my iphone4 breaking both the front and the back, screens are shite imo and they are both the same type of glass. Claimed on orange insurance for that, wasn't a problem with them.
