Can get the pro in America tomorrow so its not that bad a price. My MacBook at the min is one of the first generation alloy unibody ones.

It'll have a USA keyboard, will that bother you?

They're the same as your current MacBook, but with some extras and some VTEC yo.

I made a thread a while back, someone posted pics of the different keyboards as I was thinking of getting one over there once upon a time...

Cheers Ed, what did you do in the end? Might just fit some more ram into this one for the time been.

well the unibody macbook was on practically a macbook pro without the pro name wasn't it? I have the same model. I can't see it being much different personally.

Mine has 2gb of ram, 2.4ghz intel core duo 2 processor and a 250gb hard drive.

The pro now has 4gb of ram (would upgrade to 8), 2.7ghz Intel Core I7 processor and a 500gb hard drive. It also has a firewire port and a memory card slot.

Dont think the macbook has a backlit keyboard, which makes a massive difference to me, I actually hate using other laptops without it now. The macbook has a shorter battery life too I think. Iv had my macbook pro for a while now and wouldn't swap it for anything and I will definitely be buying a new one when the time comes, which will be a while as it still runs perfect now tbh, 100% worth the extra £100 or whatever it is.

Mine is the same spec as your one then Rick, have the back lit keyboard as well. I suppose if you need the extra memory and hard disc space it's worth it.

Ermm, I'm probably going to buy an iPad The MacBook Pro is a very powerful piece of kit, most people who own them (and know a thing or two about computers) tend to say that they're a lot more than what they actually need. If your MacBook is doing the old go-slow routine then you might want to upgrade the OS on it or do a fresh install of what you've got, if you think you're running out of RAM then by all means upgrade that too.

I decided that they're a lot of money and I'd stick to what I've got for now

Yes, you're doing you usual Draper and buying the most expensive stuff you can for no reason. What do you use the mac for? Posting car threads? Does the current one struggle? Answer no, dont get one. Answer yes, then get one. As the meercats would say, simples.

An Air is a good recommendation actually. The current one is showing Pro performance for a lot of things, but in a tiny lightweight package

SSD will give a massive performance boost btw, probably more than you'd notice with extra RAM or a slightly better CPU

Upgrade the ram and stick an SSD in it if you don't really need the storage (could add a NAS for that and all in it'll still be cheaper than buying a MBPro).

As above. Just fitted an SSD to my laptop and by christ has it made a difference.

Check out the OCZ Vertex 2, has the highest read and write speeds I could find for a 60gb drive.

Bought a I7 MBP, the saving i made more than makes up for having to get used to the US style keyboard.
