Hi lads. Just needing some info if anyone can help.
Basically i have mayo on my dipstick but not on the oil filler cap, been like this for a bit but thought nothing of it as my old corsa was the same.
HOWEVER checked my coolant tonite and its low
Sooooo 99% sure this is the headgasket on its way out. Going to take it to my mechanic friend very soon but just wondering if anyone can tell me a ballpark figure for a head gasket replacement??
Il be buying the gasket and oil n shit so need price on purely labour costs????
Any help welcome. Cheers

depends on what engine you got. i got quoted over £600 on the 14xe astra at a garage. yet i worked it out, for parts only about £180ish, belt without new pullys, w.pump, headgasket and bolts etc...
but the head mite need skimming, think you can get em done for around £40.
first try sticking some rad-welds or something like that in

If the mechanic's your mate I wouldn't expect him to charge more than £200 labour

dont put rad-weld in.
If its not coming up on the cap, do a oil change and see how it goes, even more so if you say its been like that a while.
Coolant will go down slightly over a period of time, Unless its lost all the coolant, Its not to worry imo.
People are farr to scared of head gaskets and jump to that conclusion for no reason imo.

Cheers for all the replys lads.
Aw06 i was thinkin the same thing as you. Thing is though the header tank was stupidly low, and what was left of the coolant was grey and grey/black deposits all around the tank.
Im gonna guess thats not a goodthing
