F***ing itunes striking again here
RIGHT....
I only have one shot left with this otherwise i'm going to lose 10 years worth of music
We've recently got as new laptop which i've only just put itunes on tonight. I've plugged in my iphone and it's deleted every piece of music both off my phone AND the itunes library except for what i've paid for via itunes which isn't much.
The one hope i have is my old ipod which still has all my old music on (but non of the new stuff which is saved on itunes)
How can i export the music off my old ipod to the librarys on both my laptops??
And then get it ALL back onto my iphone?? Plus ive also just got a new iphone4 which i'd like it all on too but if the first problem is sorted i could stop panicking

You could import things manually on to the laptop so as not to lose the new stuff. Would take bloody ages this way, I'm not sure how else you could do it?

Thing is marc there used to be an option on itunes to export and import music but i can't find it now
When i plug the ipod into the laptop to try and extract it without itunes the files on the ipod are all data files instead of actual music

If I backed up my CD's I'd be busy for quite some time! I'd hate to have to put everything on iTunes!

All the CD's are either lost/stolen or in about 3 different places
I can't even get my contacts onto itunes now off my phone! FFS

DONT USE ITUNES. WHATEVER YOU DO.
Get mediamonkey or foobar3000 to back your tunes back. Bit of googling about those programs will tell you how to do it. Just don't sync the ipod

Copy the songs back from your old laptop.
Also agree with "if data isnt in 3 places it doesnt exist". All my data is in 4 different places and on different media.

4 places? Bit OTT isn't it? My data is in 2 places... the likelyhood of both of these places failing tot he extent I can't get anything back is practically 0

Having data in 4 places is ok if you've not got any or have unlimited funds/space.
When you've got terabytes it becomes a bit more difficult and costly.

I've used a program called CopyPod (available to buy, or alternatively download from the special shop) to transfer music from an old iPod to my PC.

Close iTunes
Download and run this; http://www.getsharepod.com/
Press 'Copy to PC' and select all the files.
Highlight all of them, import to iTunes
Re-download all the purchased music from iTunes
Unplug iPod, plug in iPhone and sync the music
