If I buy something today, do I need the funds in my bank account for the it to go through.
Or will paypal pay for it, and authorise the money to come out of my account in 3-5 days?
Skint today, but wanna buy something to get here over the weekend, get paid tomorrow.

I thought the funds would need to be available at the time, even though it may come out of the account a couple of days later. Did it work?

If you only have a bank account linked, the payment will be sent as an "echeque" and takes about a week to 10 days to 'clear' IIRC.
If you have a debit/credit card linked, payment will go through straight away.

hmmm, was debit card  soon see! Could charge me £5 but i'll be back in credit tomorrow anyway
As it happened, it does authorise immediately from a Debit card  .... Luckily it cost £14.70 and I had exactly £14.70 available! So all good
