In a bit of a flap, need to work on my research module for my degree and cannot get my laptop to connect to my home WiFi. Phone is connecting fine to it. Tried resetting modem/router 3 times now and restarted laptop 3 times, nothing. It connected fine to the uni WiFi all day yesterday. Not sure what else to do!

try control panel > network connections
and then disable and enable the network card.

Can you see the little wifi icon in the system tray, bottom right?
Double click on that, is your home network listed?
Try double clicking on it and see what happens.

Did that brett  did the diagnose connection problems thing as well, just kept saying to restart router.

I assume it was in the list then? What happened when you clicked on it?

It said to connect, it tried to connect and failed.

If your still having problems, try resetting the router (you'll need a pin or a pen to do this), then open your web browser and in the address bar type 192.168.1.1 (could be 0.1 at the end) then go though the setup wizard putting in your username/password etc and try to connect again.
(That's what I'd do anyway)

Except if you're not connected to the network then you won't be able to access the router  Should probably add 'connect via ethernet' in there somewhere.

Doubt its the router if it's win 7 it can be gay like this try deleting any stored reference to the ssid and any stored network keys

Thank you for the help guys, it started working again after the updates installed (it is Windows 7 Steve yeah). Took 2 hours to update!

Its a cable that goes from your router to your laptop (wired) instead of what your currently using (wireLESS)

Not strictly true I don't think, most routers have their Wireless enabled by default? At least all the ones I've ever had did... Then she'd be able to connect to the router

The problem is that she couldn't connect to the wifi ffs, it's not even open for discussion.
