This is driving me mad now
Been using a Netgear router for a couple of years now, but just signed up a new contract with TalkTalk and they've sent me a new router.
The new router works fine on my laptop and my dad's laptop but not on my mum's.
Keeps on saying 'unidentified network'
I've deleted the netgear router from the wireless networks but still no joy.
Any ideas?

What operating system is your mothers laptop running?
Can you get on the wireless network ok? i.e. does it ask for for a WEP/WPA password which you enter in successfully?

Running vista.
And yeah it connects fine and I've entered the password but after that it pauses for a few seconds and says unidentified network.

Sometimes rebooting the router (or turning it off/on again) fixes this problem, I had this the other day actually at a customer's premises.

Can you check the IP settings? is her laptop set to get an IP address automatically or is it manually configured? does she use said laptop at work or another location too?

I'm guessing talktalk sent you their little white wireless N EchoLife router? Good connection speeds with the N, but the router itself is utter dog shit and has problem. Can't even port forward properly for one

Funny you should mention that, I recently installed a Netgear router for a company that had TalkTalk's rebranded Thomson router (wireless G though not N) and their old TT router couldn't forward ports either!

I've got a spare Netgear DGN1000 you can have for cheap if you're interested?
Port forwarding works on that, especially when using software that connects to special shops...

Is that N tho? Couldn't live without N now.
The current one is fine at auto forwarding for torrents, xbox, etc. I get cracking speeds. It's just trying to forward for my proxy and remote desktop etc won't work for shit. Obviously I can use logmein, but the proxy server is the main one I wanted back in my life.

Mieran,
Has the Anti Virus on your mums machine recently expired?
And can you change the settings for the 'unidentified network' ? to say its a secure home network?
