2 tracks have to be played at an event as background music, but they can't just stop dead at the end, and I need to fade them out for the last 10 seconds or so....

What would be the easiest way?

Thanks

Use Audacity, selection portion of waveform and use the fade-out option under the Effects menu

I was gunna suggest either run the song through a mixer if you have one available or dl dj software of some kind. Can fade whenever you want then.

That's a bit like using a JCB bucket to hammer in a nail. As everyone has said, better off using audio editing software as it'll give far more accurate results.

Tried Audacity last night but fell asleep, had to convert the song from mp4a or something. Will have another look this evening.

Download the 1.3 Beta as it'll allows you to open proprietary formats (or install ffmpeg) - http://audacity.sourceforge.net/help/faq?s=files&i=wma-proprietary
