Has anyone had that error fixed before? My local repair shop are quoting me £40 to fix it. Would it cost more to have Microsoft do it?

Microshaft will most likely cost more.

£40 sounds aright but it might not cure it for ever, one of the x-clamp replacement kits might fix it for a while, which are about £4, and no doubt microsoft will charge more
Edit: xclamp might not fix this fault

XClamp is only a temp fix and in the long run, will probably fuck it up beyond repair.

Just checked the email i got off the repair shop, they give a 12 month warranty with all repairs so I'll just take it there. Will be miles quicker than sending it to Microsoft.

How old is the box? Pretty sure Microsoft have 3year warranty on E74 faults, same as red ring.

Can't remember but I reckon about 3.5 years! Think if I register it with Microsoft they will tell me if it's still covered. If not I'll just take it to the repair place.

I think you can check online to see if you have a valid microsoft warranty.

I remember I sent my chipped xbox off with this error. I even left a game in the tray by accident, they repaired it and put the disc in a wallet for me!
