Sick of getting my 360 repaired so gonna just replace it. Question is I have the elite now and will be replacing it with the new type. Will my elite HDD work in the new 360?

The fitments are different, but you can take the bare HDD out of the old style and just slot it into the new style's HDD slot.

Pretty sure the new 360 has an internal HDD, rather than a detachable job.

New style 360's have a flap on the side, HDD just slots in.

Apparently you can get the old sytle hdd to fit the new ones doug will confirm this I'm sure

Or just upload all your old data on that hdd to the cloud and then download it onto the new Xbox

Yeah I just found a guide how to do it. You remove the plastic case from the old type and it will slot straight in apparently.

E74 error. had it fixed twice now and it's gone again. the 4gb one is cheap enough to buy so i'm going new. the new one is quieter anyway.

You can just take the old ones out of the case and slot them in. They do move around slightly as the only thing holding it in is the interface itself. the new cases are available on Ebay for a few quid.

You can use new hard drives, but you have to buy specific Western Digital drives and write some kind of security sector to the drive for the xbox to recognise it.

Bit of googling should help.
