Specifically with a windows operating system, not media boxes etc unless they will work on a pc running windows 7.

For some unknown reason my 'windows media player home cinema' has started doing some weird shit although when I use the 'windows media player classic' it is fine.

I do not have the time or patience to troubleshoot so thought I would see if there are any better players out there for playing HD content?

Not sure if you still need a codec with it as it's been a year or two since I installed it, but I use CoreAVC Professional.

EDIT: Quick Google and you can use Haali's Media Splitter.

As you can tell I am a bit of a noob with all this. Given that my install of MPC can play mkv files then I guess I must already have the codecs?

Might have been included with the media player home cinema install?

Is there a way to clean uninstall codecs? might be an idea for me to have a fresh install instead of buggering things up even more.

VLC looks buggy and laggy now, used to be awesome though.

Seth you can uninstall them in the normal add / remove programs menu.

EDIT: I was using VLC 1.1

It's now on 2.0.1, just updated and yes, it's a lot better. No need for codecs either.

Windows media player for music, and DivX for videos. Although when i watch a video through DivX, it doesnt let me turn the volume up or down, i have to minimize it.
