Depends on the server and server location you used for the test.

I get 25ms, 10MB, 512k on adsl.

I get higher speeds on my phone than I do on our line and I live 10 miles from a city centre so marginal HSPDA performance.

Run a traceroute(/tracert) or ping against a UK server (BBC etc) and see what it's like; it could purely be down to speed-check server rather than a issues with your connection.

TheNobleOne - Usually you find testing against the London servers will result in a lower ping as the route to MK (Uno) server isn't great from VM's network.

Yeah, I've noticed that before. Was the same when I was on O2 too.

Cant get bt infinity up here yet, just took out a bt broadband package yesterday.
The green box is at the entrance to the development and can see it from my house. Should this mean decent speeds for me or wont it matter?

Doesn't matter, it's how close you are to the exchange.

How is it?

Its fibre to cab, so exchange distance is fairly irrelevant. Distance to cab is more important as thats the only bit of copper

This! Exchange distance doesn't come into play with FTTC.

Edit - Good point John, helps to read the OP

Noobs

Mertin google "bt broadband speed checker" for an accurate reading of how fast you'll be able to get

Bt infinity not avilable, BT wont release the lines to get a decent service from anyone.

Scottish Highlands fails at the internet.

Another problem with the really remote exchanges is the back haul connection is rubbish. No point giving everybody 20MB when it's only a 10MB main line back to the nearest distribution point.

I'm a tad confused, BT have installed a FTTC cabinet next door to the original copper cabinet down the road. It's showing as accepting orders, and low and behold I can order for a street down the road but not my own? Surely as the cabinets are next door to each other it makes no odds as to why one should get it and the other not?

Looks like while I can get Infinity I they have not rolled out the double speed yet so its only the 38mb service. As am already on virgin 50mb I was wanting to go straight to the 76mb service. No ETA either
