There aren't that many games around tha resemble MGS in style and if it represents your lowest possible standard and FPS' are ruled out, then I think you're hard pressed to find anything you'd like TBH.

If you're willing to try something in a different ballpark however, then Infamous and Uncharted 2 are fantastic examples of how a good, story driven 3rd-person shooter can also look.

Looking at that list, Little Big Planet is an awesome game that really stands out as being different from most other games.

Actually, Mass Effect 2/3 might be exactly your thing!

Opposed to MGS it's an RPG. Ask Seth why it's good.

Yeah, I never really got the ME games. Think I'm too casual a gamer. Prefer something I can just pick up and play. MGS never said me anything either though...
