Just had a bloke knock on the door for the goverment cavity wall and loft installation.
He says it's free and signed all paperwork as "free" also and has another company coming out to us next Wednesday.
However I'm now getting that paranoid feeling that rogue traders inbuilt into you. This scheme is still ongoing right?
He said I didn't need to be on any benifits or anything as "everyone" qualifys.
I own the house myself with no housing scheme.
Please tell me I'm not getting scammed.
(p.s no bank details were handed over and he did say to not hand any money over next Wednesday too as its free)

I got it free but it was a company through british gas.
I was paranoid about damp so done a bit of research on it. Was only done in March so don't know how much difference it's made until it cools down.

The government scheme is only free to o.a.p's and people on benefits.
Either its a different scheme or he's got it wrong.

Double check everything, all small prints etc, and make sure it doesnt have hidden costs. So they cant invoice after doing it because your house is made of bricks not cardboard etc
Never hand over any bank details or cash.
You cant get stung then

There are some suppliers etc that are giving it away free at the moment so they are probably just acting on their behalf.

I've read the form he has given us and it does have a disclaimer saying its free for OAP's and benefit recipients.
It does clearly show a price of "Free" though in the columns where they would put a price.
I think I'll ask on wednesday when they turn up before any work is done.
I've only said yes to it as I've heard about the scheme so bought it was legit but now i'm unsure. Damn fucking rogue trader styled programs!

I'm not an OAP or on benefits.
They originally said I'd be charged £19 because the square footage required was more than the grant allowed, I've never been invoiced for it though.

We were offered it the other week but didn't qualify for it to be free so turned it down and I'll do it myself.
Can't remember why though.

We always get these at the door, just tell them to bugger off as anytime I've looked at it it's only for those on benefits or pensioners.

That's exactly what I got, it was a localish company that done it but took months from inspection to them being available.

this is normally the case but until August most post codes qualify for free cavity wall and insulation - its before the green deal becomes active in October as it has an impact on the way schemes are funded

Did you ask what type of insulation they used?
If it was polystyrene balls they'll be lying about everywhere. Don't think the blown fibre stuff is any good.
