Got the right speed on the port?
And also test the USB/serial adapter, I've got one that just doesn't like Cisco AP's but works just fine with Switches.

It's more a local echo I think as I can ctrl-a etc but no typing into the console. Cable works with win7 at 9600

Apple have probably decided that you don't need to work with cisco equipment so it just doesn't work.
