Has anyone tried Ovivo?
They're another MVNO mobile operator running on the Vodafone network and while they do offer a range of pre-paid tariffs (they aren't anything special from what i can see), similar to GiffGaff, the main attraction is their free tariff.
You have to pay an initial £20 for the sim card, of which £15 then gets added to your credit balance (similar to GiffGaff, if you go over your monthly allowance then you eat into your credit balance), but you get the following for free every month -
- 150mins Calls
- 250 Texts
- 500MB Data
The catch is, you have to watch a five second advert every so often when you launch your phones browser and browse using mobile data - obviously adverts aren't displayed when using WiFi nor within other data-based apps (Facebook, Twitter etc).
It does seem to be a bit 'too good to be true' but they appear to be getting pretty decent reviews and certainly could be a good alternative to GiffGaff (and the likes) for light mobile users.

Wonder if that would be of any use for those cheap GPS trackers, or even in an old phone as a GPS tracker.

I've got an Ovivo SIM in my dongle. Only used it a few times but its worked well.
If I connect up the iPad it, you don't get any ads on apps, its only when using the web browser.

Saw this on HUKD and wondered if, with Onavo I could slim my data usage down to 500mb, I'd happily pay £30 up front for 1gb a month if they offered it.
Hard to say how annoying the ads are to live with until you try it I guess, Voda are pretty poor rounder here too. Thinking of moving to Three if they do 4G for free on their PAYG sims.

Sounds brilliant but I'd be so scared that if I ported my number over to one of these lesser known companies I'd loose my good number.
Might get one for my iPad though!

You'd think Apple would tighten up the loose ends with iPad spell check.

This seems a good deal. I currently pay a tenner a month for giffgaff, but the signal is crap at my house. Vodafone signal is perfect though.
