We're on a pay-as-you-go electric meter, through British Gas, who as we all know have recently raised prices substantially.

Being our first home we're not sure on ways and means of changing supplier, or even if its possible when on a pay-as you-go-meter.

Are we able to do this? If so, how can it be done most simply?

Is it your house? Or rented? If its your house then you should be able to phone up any company and get changed to them, or changed to billed electric (I think...this could be completely incorrect information)

I'd imagine you'd have to go through your landlord if rented to change from meter to billed.

I changed to edf as they will change the meters for free. I got a rebate through the post today from last year. They charged a bigger standing charge apparently. Winner!

Call any company they just take over. They don't replace meter if your still wanting the same method . Am contemplating getting them fitted in my house as am sick of estimated bills that are 3x what I have used . Am just they pick a figure and treble it . British gas are total cunts too . Sse seem about best out of a bad bunch

I'm with SSE and I like the electric meter tbh. You are more conscious about what you use.

You normally end up paying more per unit on a pre-pay meter.
