A few months ago I got a friend to take windows 8 off my laptop and put windows 7 on as I couldnt get used to the new metro screen.
When he did it he created a backup on 3 dvd disks, lately my laptop has been running a bit slow and theres a new update to windows 8.1 which takes the metro screen away so was going to put windows 8 back onto it.
I have tried a few times now to do this but it doesnt seem to be able to find the disk to do this, ive put the files onto a external hard drive and it isnt finding this either, any ideas?
Ive been doing it by going into control panel, then recovery, advanced recovery methods, then use a system image you created earlier to recover, then the next process is to enter the last disk of the back up which I do but doesnt find it.
Any help would be much appreciated, ive tried phoning my mate who done it but cant get hold of him , think im a bit out my depth here so as i say any help would be good, cheers!

You probably need to load the DVD in then boot from it BEFORE windows starts.
When you turn the laptop on look for a press xxx for boot menu then choose to boot from the DVD drive from that

Been using 8.1 on my workstation, I've got it to boot to desktop and removed most of the crap from the Start Menu. You get used to it pretty quick. I can't stand the animations and transitions on the mobile version and the random full screen apps which sometimes pop up do my head in.
