Have been given a phone, no idea if its unlocked as the sim in is the same as our current sim cards and the person it came from doesnt know either. Is there a quick test without a different sim card to see if its unlocked? Its a Samsung s3 mini.
Also how much is unlocking nowadays, never done one before. Can it be do online with a code or is it best from one of them stalls in town?

Easiest way to unlock it is to call the service provider it's locked to.
If a friend gave it to you and they bought it new, they can unlock it free of charge.
