I've wired up an automotive 40amp relay. I have a 7.5amp fuse on the feedin and outs. After a few mins with the relay being switched on it gets warm to touch. Then it gets really hot.
Any ideas why? It can't be drawing too much current as I have the 7.5amp fuses in place

Im sure relays shouldn't get hot!! may be slightly warm after a while but not hot.

Not really... such as wire shouldn't get hot as it should be thick enough to handle the current, if not then its fire time.
A relay should work in the same way, the switching mechanism and coil should be able to easily withstand the current thus only a small resistance should occur not to be causing heat.
my thought anyhoo
