?

If you could shield it from the heat and had sufficient cold air feeds, would it be good ?

I mean would it give better performance over a drilled airbox ?

Cos I dont want to drill my airbox

cheers

My k+n works fine but it didnt b4 i made a heatshield, my car would nearly stall as i set off from traffic lights. I think that the drilled airbox does out perform induction kits on performance but i wouldnt expect it to be a gr8 amount, if noticed at all. Induction kits sound gr8 but can perform poor when the engine bay gets hot

obviously something that sucks only cold air is gonna be better than a drilled airbox

a drilled airbox does not do this

i believe that if u make a good enougth shield then put a nice cold air feed to it then it shud out perform a drilled air box.

Make a 50 mm hole in the box and fit a pipe with to feed cold air. Fit a 80 mm flexible pipe to feed the main entry of the air box picking air from the front grill.
Much better than drilled aibox in terms of perfomance

i've got a flexible pipe connected to the main entry of the box and the car picks up so much better than the standard air intake.

im using the standard filter too...

If you seal an induction kit... you basically get a Viper clone.. and hence the best performance.

Cool.

I think that's the option I'll be looking at - trying to seal a cone somehow

Thanks

u wont get the same as a viper by just sealin off a normal induction kit, this is taken from their ad
"The Viper uses 'Velocity force' to direct cold air directly into the engine. The cold air feed takes air from behind the grill straight into the Viper 100mm diameter inlet, swirling it through a unique Pipercross velocity filter contained in a carbon fibre heat shield and into the ram pipe to increase pressure, before feeding it into the induction system"

I have a bfo cone.
1 cold air feed
Aluminium heat shiel which goes underneath cone and up the rhs. When bonnet is shut seals it to the bonnet lining.Seems to work well.

Pic in garage.

mav: don't think i could have a shield like that on my 1.2 16v corsa B because there is no cover on my fanbelt and it would catch on it!
