depends mate,
if you after one of those tft head units, the Clarion (?) is suppose to be the mutz but it'll set ya back just over a grand. If you go down this road it will have inputs on it etc and it will cost ya only 20 quid or so for the cables.
However, if you want to do the seperate screen, HU route then £250 for the HU (you need something that has an input for sound), the screen...about 100-400 quid (depends what ya after etc)...and probably 40 odd quid for cables/wiring it up. You can do it cheaply this way, but the screen will be naff. Although warning about screens, get a TFT and NOT a STN !!!

got money get a motorised screen din unit.
not got money,
I got a yons tft screen (sony spelt backwards) cheap and good quality £170,
inverter £35,
possibly a fm modulator depending on ur headunit, £50
patients, time, a torque set to undo your panels for wiring, (25 i think)
I wired all mine to the power supply behind the fag lighter, worked.
I found that my car was gettin alot of attention of a night and i didnt have an alarm, so i got rid and bought an alarm.
saving for a motorised screen din unit so it will be hid.
ps2 fits perfect in the glove box.
good luck!!!
need any advice u2u me!
