You can get Blu-ray players from £250 now, so perhaps it will start to compete with DVD eventually and replace it possibly?

Yes it will, not for at least a few years though imo.

Whats the fastest downloads anybody gets, couple of meg a second, even if home lines are upgraded in the near future the servers still have to be fast enough, we just won't be fast enough to download hi def content thats not heavily compressed.

There's a storage implication as well, its just too expensive to download HD yourself currently.

Figures are quite stark though. I think most commentators agreed that there could only be one winner.

I DLd almost 300GB of HD films in a month out here in spain, for free

i too think downloading is the future.

i downloaded a legit full hd movie on xbox live in about an hour or so. Probably quicker, and cheaper then going out and buying/renting one. Its also stored digitally so no need for space to keep dvd boxes etc.

What resolution/compression method was this, hd films on disc are ~20 gig, was it divx compressed?

The XBL movies are roughly 5-6GB (IIRC)
