I was going to take out my spare wheel but a couple of people have said that they think its illegal not to have one
Is this true? Or is it just advisable to have one?

if you have a spare wheel, the tread on it must be legal, if you dont have a spare wheel thats fine,

u can use a 13' for a spare as long as u put it on the back of the car cos then it wont effect the stearing!

A tyre place by me wont repair tyres after using that weld stuff as its too messy.
Best off just joining the RAC instead.
Punctures only cost £5 to get fixed.

Do the RAC do roadside repairs then or do they tow you away first?

No its not illegal, stupid but not illegal, the smart cars dont have one, but you can buy a compressor and tyre weld, which is what i do. get a tin of that tyre weld stuff from halfords, and i think they do a small tyre compressor as well.

Great.
Stupid is a bit harsh though, unwise, not ideal maybe but not stupid.
Always good to loose some weight

the spare tyre is not part of the mot
regardless of whether u have one or whether it is legal it is not tested
u dont have to have one and if u do it doesnt have to be legal

Spare tyre is same as a rear wiper aint it?
If its there it has to be in legal condition.
Think me sis had to swap a tyre on her's once and go back without a spare to pass.
I aint got a spare or tyre weld in me smart.
Was gonna buy a can of tyre weld but then found out you have to jack the car up to put the weld in - aint got a jack either!
Got an RAC card though
Il let you know if they bring another wheel / repair on the spot / tow you away if i ever get a puncture!

RAC sounds like the best bet, how much did it cost you to join?

To have recovery as well as roadside assistance its bout £80 a year.
Bought it off the RAC chap outside tesco's and got joint membership for same price as single.
Been out to me twice, took bout 1hr 30mins both times.
Chose them over AA as ive been cut up by the AA a few times! Oh and the RAC/Auto Windscreens did a good job of replacing me windscreen.

£80's not bad, there's one hangs around town so I might actually stop next time he trys to collar me.

personally.......
i carry tire foam but would NOT use it as ull be lucky to not have to get a new tyre after uve used it (60 quid plus)
id only use it if i ever had to get off a dodgy bit of road etc, PLUS it only gets u so far (recomended, but u can drive further) and as i drive on motorways a lot id have to pull in at next service station anyway and ring RAC
AND i pay X amount for the best RAC cover just incase these things happen so i might aswell use it!!
u DONT need a spare and it DOSNT have to have legal tread, BUT if you put it on the car then it MUST be legal
thats the way i read the MOT book
