My comp has given up on me. Got monitor, keyboard, mouse,scanner and printer. So just need a new base unit. Prob budget of £400. What sort of spec should i be looking at. Basically i need it to last me a 3 years through uni.
So far i think i want...
Dvd reader
Cd writer drive
512 Mb Ram
60GB + hard drive
As for processors and graphics cards, i don't have a clue. So help me out guys...

Amd are cheaper but their processors are just as good as intel

rite. What speed processor should i be teaming up with 512 ram and 60gb+ hard disk? 2800 or 3200? or would less be ok?

for 400 Squid u wont be lookin at 3200, on a safe bet u could go for a 2500 which is the entry level of 333fsb, the memory should be 512mb PC2700 to accomodate with speed, as for the hard drive get a 80gb excelstor because it works out about 60p a gig.

Well i build about 10 pcs aday, so i know them inside out. It may be quite complicated just be carefull when handling the major components like Processor and hdd
When u put a cooler(heatsnk and fan) on the processor make sure u have it on the right way round.

the prices on ram is on the increase too, and also if im not mistaken they dont have to go ny the prices of their website which means u could end up being dissed out.

Build your own, its childsplay, providing you don't give yourself a quick rub down with a balloon or lick any of the components its pretty difficult to break something. Just make sure there are no shorts between the motherboard and case and then just plug things in, simple.
